Senior Research Associate, Bioconjugation (South San Francisco, CA)

Sutro Biopharma, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate with background in bioconjugation and analytics to join our Protein Biochemistry Group. The successful candidate will have a key role on cross functional teams to advance protein therapeutics, including but not limited to antibody drug conjugates, PEGylated protein, protein-protein conjugates, and protein-nucleotide conjugates. The critical role will contribute to the optimization and development of bioconjugation techniques as well as characterization of conjugates. 


  • Synthesis, characterization, and delivery (in a timely manner) of protein conjugates in support of discovery and development of novel protein therapeutics.
  • Development of bioconjugation and characterization methods to generate novel bioconjugates.
  • Execution of protein analytical methods to characterize protein and bioconjugates using HPLC, LC-MS, UV-vis, gel-electrophoresis, and DLS.


  • BS in chemical biology, biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, or a related field with 1-3 years of experience; MS in chemical biology, biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, or a related field with 0 to 2 years of experience.
  • Experience in characterization of proteins and protein conjugates using applicable techniques. Comfortable with routine use of HLPC (RP-, HIC-, SEC-, and CIEX-).
  • Hands on experience in LCMS is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience working with protein through expression, purification, or characterization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, learn and optimize new conjugation techniques and protein analytical methods.
  • Thorough understanding of protein expression, purification, and characterization.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignment, and consistently perform assigned tasks.
